Course Outline - Understanding Planning - Day 2
Day 2 of this course will focus on creating planning records, looking at why and how we plan for each child as unique individuals. Delegates will examine how to plan effectively to meet the needs of young children in the long, medium and short term to ensure that all children are supported in all six areas of learning and development and therefore supported to achieve the five outcomes of Every Child Matters.
Delegates will need to bring their Early Years Foundation Stage pack with them
Delegates will get an opportunity to:
- Consider how to plan a safe and stimulating, developmentally appropriate physical environment that will meet the needs of young children. This will include examining ideas for materials, activities and experiences that will provide opportunities for children’s learning and development
- Examine the value of observation, evaluation and reflective practice, in particular the use of jottings and information gathering as a way of considering what children might be interested in, children’s development and how children might engage with materials, experiences, adults and other children
- Recognise the important role parents and carers play in children’s lives
- Examine ways in which practitioners can share information with parents, carers and other professionals and how parents, carers and other professionals can contribute to the planning process
- Recognise that future learning and development is planned around the individual needs and interests of each individual child, and informed by the use of ongoing observational assessment.
- Consider the need to analyse and assess gathered information
- Consider how to plan a flexible curriculum taking into consideration the needs of each unique child in order to provide for children’s developing interests and preoccupations
