Course Outline - Incredible Learning Journey - Day 1
Day 1 of this course will identify effective practice, focussing on the underpinning knowledge required to implement the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage document. This will include looking at how children learn and develop and the role of the adult, together with an introduction to the six areas of learning and development. Future courses will examine each of these six areas in more depth.
Delegates will need to bring their Early Years Foundation Stage pack with them
- Delegates will get the opportunity to:
- Develop an understanding of the EYFS and how it supports their practice
- Look at the Principles, Themes and Commitments and examine the layout and wording of the EYFS pack
- Identify effective practice and make links to the EYFS, including the importance of routine times such as feeding, sleeping and toileting
- Acknowledge the important role the environment has to play in children’s learning and development
- Consider appropriate experiences to meet the needs of every child
- Understand the importance of the role of the key person in meeting children’s needs
- Acknowledge that children learn and develop in different ways and that high quality adult/child interactions are crucial to children’s learning and development
- Consider how to engage effectively with young children, including how to scaffold and extend children’s growing knowledge and understanding through episodes of sustained shared thinking
- Consider the need for an holistic approach to working with young children
